Even though we have a high percentage of women among our students, doctoral students, and the percentage of women in professorships and junior professorships has risen, many faculties do not have female professor role models. In other working areas within and outside the university, there are also still fewer women than men in higher positions.
Nevertheless, they do exist, and we would like to introduce a few of these women in order to give you the chance to identify and connect with them.
For one, a short film about the academic career of two female Mainz professors titled 'Professeurs féminines' was developed in 2003 in collaboration with the media educator Dr. Maria Böhm. The two women show that science isn’t boring but can be exciting and delightful.
For another, we created (in collaboration with the Mainz Women’s Office (Frauenbüro)) the 2011 exhibition VORBILD-(L)ICH with portraits of women from different faculties who were or are active in research, made a difference in the city, shaped scientific institutions, or made important contributions to the promotion of women. For the occasion, an exhibition catalogue (German) was created.
In 2012, a brochure (German) portraying women in leadership positions at JGU and displaying the great variety of formal and informal female leadership at JGU was created within the scope of the leadership project “Women in Leadership”.
Other presentations and portrayals of role models are planned for the future.
